Media Advisory – Sen. Yaw, ERE Committee to consider monumental environmental program and royalty transparency legislation, as well as examine proposed price rule’s potential to sustain competitive and reliable energy markets.

WHAT: PA Senate Environmental Resources and Energy (ERE) Committee Majority Chairman Gene Yaw (R-23) will convene a voting meeting of the Committee to consider:

  • Senate Bill 525 (Gordner) – establishes the framework for a Growing Greener III program;
  • Senate Bill 806 (Yaw) – ensuring landowners are afforded a clear and distinct assessment of royalties paid to them through lease agreements with natural gas operators;
  • Senate Bill 832 (Yaw, Laughlin, Martin) – establishing a Clean Streams Fund for Pennsylvania, dedicated to water quality, specifically focused on mitigating “non-point” sources of pollution, such as agricultural runoff and acid mine drainage.

The committee will also hold an informational briefing to determine if PJM Interconnection’s, America’s largest power grid operator, proposed Minimum Offer Price Rule (MOPR), would adequately maintain competitive and reliable energy markets.

WHO: The briefing will feature presentations from Dr. Joseph Bowring, president, Monitoring Analytics and independent market monitor for PJM; Asim Haque, vice president, state and member services, PJM Interconnection; and Glen Thomas, president, GT Power Group, LLC.

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 28.  Voting meeting begins at 10AM.  Briefing will be held immediately following the voting meeting.

WHERE: Hearing Room 1, North Office Building, State Capitol Complex, Harrisburg.
